Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas
Why Mandalay Bay?
After all, I have a documented weakness for places tropical and the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino is in the middle of Las Vegas in the Nevada desert.
Even though it's surrounded by sand and cactus, Mandalay Bay has a tropical flavor to it.
Start with the beach. Yes, the beach.
That beach is part of an 11 acre tropical lagoon, with a lazy river and three tropical pools to go with the sandy beach. When all that sun-soaking stirs up a dry throat and rumbling belly, the Beach Bar & Grill and the Surf Cafe will ease your longing.
Another thing that sets Mandalay Bay apart are the sharks. Unlike the rest of Las Vegas, these sharks have gills. If you get tired of the sharks at the casino taking a bite out of your boodle, check out Shark Reef. It's one of those aquariums you walk through, looking up as full-size sharks and other fish swim overhead. I can spend hours in these tunnels watching the marine life without the fuss of scuba gear.
In addition to these tropical leanings, Mandalay Bay has all the other amenities you expect to find at a top-notch Las Vegas destination-- casino, fine dining, great entertainment.
If you have the urge to head for the tropics, but you just don't have time to head for the islands, give Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas a try...
